It feels like all I’ve been thinking and talking about the last few weeks is the upcoming New York Sheep & Wool festival (aka “Rhinebeck”). I’m just so excited!!! There is really something special about being surrounded by all those who are also just as crazy about wool and knitting and sheep as I am.
To kick off the weekend, I’ll be heading to A Woolen Affair—an indie event created by Catherine Clark of Brooklyn General Store. They’ve been encouraging attendees to knit up a cute little wrist cuff (I think there may be a drawing or prizes involved…), so I took it as the perfect opportunity to swatch some Fair Isle motifs.
I have a small collection of Jamiesons of Shetland “Spindrift” yarn and Mary Jane Mucklestone’s book 200 Fair Isle Motifs to pull from. One day I hope to be a master at picking colors for Fair Isle, but for now I’m practicing!
For the cuff/swatch, I’m using a US 3 needle and casting on around 54-56 sts depending on the motif. I’m going to see how many I can get done before Friday, hopefully four or five—and I’ll share the finished cuffs next week.
At the NYSW festival, I’m looking forward to stopping by the booths of Junction Fiber Mill, Tidal Yarns, and Sawkill Farm. I’m sure something farm-y will be making its way home with me to my yarn collection.
That’s all for now! Happy knitting!
In case you missed it… I posted a new vlog on my channel this last week:
